Landing nets, handles, heads and keepnets

A suitable net helps bring a fish under control at the bank, shore or boat while reducing unnecessary handling. Landing nets include complete fixed, telescopic, folding and take-apart designs for coarse, carp, predator, trout, salmon and sea angling. The correct frame size and handle length depend on the fish, the height of the bank and the amount of space available.

Anglers building a modular setup can choose landing-net handles separately from landing-net heads. Check the thread or connection type before combining parts, because not every handle and head will be compatible. A longer handle can help reach beyond reeds, steep margins or shallow shelves, while a shorter or folding design may be easier to use from a boat or restricted bank.

Keepnets are designed to retain fish temporarily during permitted match or coarse-fishing situations. Choose an appropriate length, diameter, ring structure and fish-friendly mesh, and follow the fishery's rules on whether a keepnet may be used. Position it securely in sufficient water and avoid overcrowding or exposing retained fish to excessive heat or poor conditions.

The current range includes Matrix, Preston Innovations, Kinetic, Shakespeare, Abu Garcia, Westin, Greys, Zebco and other established brands. Brand is less important than frame strength, mesh, handle reach, packed size and the way the net will be used.

How to choose the right fishing net

Start with the target species. Small trout or general-purpose nets can be compact and easy to carry, while carp, pike and specimen fish require a larger opening and sufficient depth. Rubberised or fine fish-friendly mesh can reduce tangling and protect fins or scales, but mesh type should still suit the hooks, lures and conditions. Predator anglers using trebles should choose a design that is practical to manage and unhook safely.

Consider the bank and water level. A deep net may hold a fish securely but can create more drag in current. A wide frame offers more room when guiding a fish, yet it must remain manageable at full reach. For boat fishing, a folding or shorter-handled net may store more easily. For high banks, a longer, rigid handle can improve reach, but it should not be overloaded beyond its intended use.

Inspect spreader blocks, hinges, threads, mesh and handle sections before fishing. Rinse the net after use, especially in saltwater, and allow it to dry fully before storage. Repair damaged mesh promptly and avoid lifting a heavy fish horizontally by a long extended handle; support the frame and fish according to the product design.

Carry and organise netting equipment

Keep unhooking and cutting items accessible in the fishing tools range, protect wet or folded equipment with suitable fishing luggage, and browse bank-fishing equipment for the rest of a comfortable, organised setup. Check exact dimensions and compatibility on each product page before ordering separate handles and heads.
