Attractants add scent, taste, colour or a soluble signal to hook baits, feed and selected lure or predator presentations. Formats can include liquids, sprays, powders, oils and thicker glugs. They may alter texture, buoyancy, breakdown or PVA behaviour, so the product instructions and base bait must be considered together.
A concentrated additive may require only a small dose, while a soak or coating may be designed for longer contact. More is not automatically more effective. Excess liquid can make groundbait too wet, soften pellets, change hook-bait balance or create an overpowering presentation in clear or cold water.

Choose flavour, carrier and compatibility
Match the attractant to the intended species, bait and water conditions rather than selecting by flavour name alone. Oil-based liquids can disperse differently from water-soluble products, particularly as temperature changes. Powders may dry or toughen a bait, while liquids can soften or increase weight.
When using PVA, choose only a liquid explicitly described as PVA-friendly and test a small sample before filling bags or mesh. Water-based products can dissolve PVA prematurely. Check whether the attractant is intended for direct hook-bait application, groundbait mixing, soaking or external spraying.

Measure, store and use attractants responsibly
