Offset hooks for weedless soft plastics

Offset hooks are shaped to hold a soft lure on the shank while allowing the point to sit close to, or lightly inside, the lure body. This can reduce snagging around weed and cover. The current range includes EWG, worm, swimbait and specialist patterns from Berkley, Savage Gear, Westin, Duo Hook and Yarie.

An extra-wide gape provides clearance for thick-bodied soft plastics, while a narrower worm hook can suit slimmer baits. The offset near the eye helps retain the lure head. Some models include weight or a screw attachment; check the exact product because those features change sink rate, balance and rigging method.

Browse the parent fishing hooks range, compare general single hooks and view replacement treble hooks for hard lures. The Double Hooks collection is empty at present, so it needs genuine stock before being presented as an alternative.

Match gape and size to the soft lure

The lure must sit straight without bunching, and the gape must leave enough space for the body to compress during a take. A hook that is too small restricts point exposure; one that is too large can unbalance the bait or damage it. Size labels vary between brands, so compare the hook against the actual lure profile.

Rig the point level with the lure surface for maximum weed resistance, or leave it exposed in open water where faster contact is more important. Skin-hooking only a thin layer can help keep the bait straight. Check that the eye, knot and line do not split the lure head, and use a keeper or screw only as designed.

Wire gauge should suit the cover and target fish without overpowering the presentation. Heavy tackle can open fine wire, while an unnecessarily thick hook may reduce movement and penetration. The guide to fishing-hook choice explains point, barb and wire considerations.

Check the rig after every fish or snag

Soft plastic can slide, tear or rotate after a strike. Reset the lure so it remains straight and confirm that the point has not rolled or become buried too deeply. Inspect the line near the eye after pulling through weed, rock or timber, and retie immediately if it is rough or flattened.

Weedless does not mean snag-proof. Fish with enough control to keep a hooked fish out of hazards, retrieve broken tackle where safe and follow local restrictions on hook style and soft-plastic use. Store offset hooks in labelled compartments so different sizes, gauges and weighted versions are not mixed.
