Pike floats for deadbait and predator rigs

Pike floats support or indicate deadbait and predator presentations in stillwater and moving water. Loaded pencils, sliders, drifters and complete float kits serve different methods. The current collection includes Fox Rage, Westin and Korum, with capacities and attachment systems that must be matched to the bait, weight and water.

Pencil floats give sensitive lift or movement indication, while sliders help set greater depth. Drifter designs use wind or current to cover water. A float kit may include stops, beads or weights, but check the exact contents before ordering and confirm that every terminal component suits the line and trace strength.

Browse all fishing floats, compare compact bubble floats, review feature-finding marker floats, or use general sliding floats for other deep-water rigs.

Choose buoyancy, visibility and rig style

The float must support the bait and required weight without becoming so large that bite indication is delayed. Test the complete rig in the margin and adjust only within the float's rated capacity. Keep the total casting load inside the rod's range, including bait, lead, float, trace and hooks.

High-visibility tips help at distance or in poor light, while body colour matters less once most of the float is submerged. Set the float stop accurately, check that beads cannot pass through the eye and make sure the line slides freely. For drifting, monitor speed and avoid towing the bait unnaturally.

Always use an appropriate bite-resistant trace where pike may be present. Carry long-handled unhooking tools, cutters and a suitable landing and unhooking system. The complete pike fishing guide for Ireland provides broader species context.

Fish responsibly and inspect every component

Remain close enough to respond to an indication and never leave predator rods unattended. Check local regulations on livebait, deadbait, hook style, seasons and permitted waters. Use tackle strong enough to land fish promptly and avoid unnecessary exhaustion.

Read the pike fishing tips for Ireland. Inspect float eyes, stops, trace, swivels and hooks before every cast, and replace any part damaged by teeth, snags or repeated casting. Keep hooks covered during transport.
