Fishing drogues and drift socks in the current range
A drogue opens below the surface and creates drag, helping reduce drift speed and steady a compatible boat or kayak. The current collection includes options from Westin, Savage Gear, Fox Rage and Abu Garcia, with compact kayak-oriented designs and larger 120-by-120-centimetre formats.
Westin W3 Drift Socks are offered in a small 24-by-50-by-60-centimetre size and a large 30-by-100-by-120-centimetre size. Both use 420D polyester with a PU coating, built-in upper floats and lower weights, an automatic opening design, high-visibility retrieval strap and adjustable flow opening.
The Savage Gear MP Drogue L measures 120 by 120 centimetres and uses reinforced nylon with an adjustable weight system, rope and fast-dry carry bag. Fox Rage and Abu Garcia alternatives add weighted opening, retrieval hardware and storage; Beast Pro variants include 80-by-80 and 120-by-120-centimetre sizes.
Choose size, attachment and drift control
A larger drogue generally produces more drag, but craft size, wind, current, attachment point and fishing method all matter. Use the exact product guidance instead of selecting by dimensions alone. The fixing point must be approved for the load and positioned so the rope cannot cross passengers, fishing line or the propeller.
Browse all boating equipment, compare compact float tubes only where the drogue is approved for that craft, and organise rods with suitable rod holders. Match the fishing outfit with boat rods and multiplier reels.
Check whether rope, carabiner, weights and storage bag are included. A bright retrieval strap helps locate the opening, while an adjustable rear aperture can alter water flow on relevant models. Do not change ropes, clips or weights unless the replacement is rated and approved for the exact drogue.
Deploy, retrieve and care for a drogue
Practise at low speed in open water. Deploy from the intended side only after checking line, engine and steering position, then confirm the drogue opens and tracks clear of the hull. Keep a knife or emergency release accessible as appropriate, but never wrap the rope around a hand or body.
A drogue helps manage drift but does not hold a fixed position or replace navigation. Use fishing electronics only as supporting information, maintain a visual watch and wear correctly fitted flotation equipment. Retrieve the drogue before powering away, approaching hazards or entering shallow, congested water.
After use, rinse salt and grit as directed, untangle the rope and dry the fabric completely before packing. Inspect seams, webbing, floats, weights, straps and carabiners. Replace frayed rope, distorted hardware or torn material before the next trip rather than relying on knots or temporary patches under load.
