Polarised sunglasses for fishing around water

Polarised lenses filter horizontally reflected glare from the water surface, making it easier to see changes in depth, weed, rocks and fish movement while reducing visual fatigue. They do not automatically provide a particular level of ultraviolet protection, so the stated UV rating and applicable eyewear standard must be checked separately.

Lens colour changes contrast and light transmission. Grey or smoke tones are versatile in bright conditions, brown or amber can increase contrast, and lighter yellow-style lenses may help in dull light. The best choice depends on weather, water colour and personal vision rather than one colour being universally superior.

Browse the parent fishing accessories range, compare other fishing optics, protect eyewear in suitable tackle boxes, or organise small retainers and cleaning items with hook and rig storage.

Choose lens, fit and coverage

A close wrap or side shield can reduce stray light, while a comfortable bridge and temples keep the glasses stable through a long session. Check frame width, lens height and compatibility with hats or hearing protection. A retention cord can help around boats and steep banks if it attaches securely.

Visible-light transmission indicates how much light reaches the eye. Dark lenses can be uncomfortable in deep shade, while very light lenses may not control glare in strong sun. Photochromic and mirrored treatments have different purposes from polarisation; confirm each feature rather than relying on appearance.

Polarised lenses are not suitable for every task. Some screens, instruments and laminated glass can appear dark or distorted at certain angles. Check navigation displays and phone screens before relying on them, and remove the glasses if accurate screen reading is affected.

Clean and protect fishing eyewear

Rinse salt, grit and spray before wiping, then use a clean microfibre cloth and a lens-safe cleaner. Avoid dry rubbing, household chemicals and hot dashboards, which can damage coatings or distort frames.

Store the glasses in a rigid case, inspect lenses for cracks and replace damaged eyewear that affects vision. Sunglasses do not replace certified impact protection where tools, hooks or flying objects create a hazard.
