Shop spinning reels for lure, coarse, predator and saltwater fishing in Ireland. Compare fixed-spool models from Savage Gear, Kinetic, Westin, Abu Garcia, Matrix, Preston Innovations, Shakespeare and other established brands, with varied sizes, drag systems, gear ratios and line capacities. Match reel weight and capacity to the rod, line, lure and target species.
Spinning reels for freshwater and saltwater angling
Spinning reels use a fixed spool and rotating bail arm, making them a versatile choice for lure fishing, float work and selected coarse or sea methods. The current collection includes front-drag and rear-drag models from Savage Gear, Kinetic, Westin, Abu Garcia, Matrix, Preston Innovations, Shakespeare, DAM, Korum, Mitchell and other brands.
Reel size is not completely standardised between manufacturers. Compare physical dimensions, weight, spool capacity and the intended line rather than relying only on a 2500, 3000 or 4000 label. A compact reel balances light rods and fine line, while larger models provide more capacity and retrieve power for heavier tackle or saltwater work.
Body and rotor construction affect weight and rigidity, while the bail arm and line roller influence line management. Bearing count alone does not measure reel quality: alignment, sealing, gear support and smooth operation under load are more useful practical checks. Choose features that suit the environment rather than the largest specification list.
Choose drag, retrieve and line capacity
The drag should start smoothly and provide enough adjustment for the line and target fish. Set it below the breaking strain of the weakest part of the rig, then test it through the guides. Gear ratio describes spool or rotor movement per handle turn, but actual line retrieve also depends on spool diameter and fill level.
Check whether the handle can be changed to the preferred side and whether a spare spool is included. Line lay matters when casting braid or fine monofilament; fill the spool evenly and stop below the lip as recommended. Balance the loaded reel on the rod, because an oversized model can make repeated casting tiring even when its capacity looks useful.
Compare reel types and maintain the setup
Browse the wider fishing reels range, compare multiplier reels for casting or boat methods, and consider baitrunner reels for a secondary free-spool system. Surf reels focus on shore capacity and casting. The perch fishing with spinners guide provides a practical lure-fishing example.
Close the bail by hand where practical, keep line away from the spool shaft and never wind against a slipping drag. After saltwater use, rinse according to the manufacturer's guidance, dry the reel and avoid forcing oil or grease into unapproved areas.
