Jig heads for soft-lure fishing

Jig heads combine a weighted head with a hook or lure attachment to take soft baits to the required depth and transmit bottom contact. The live range is broad, including conventional, weedless, screw-in, tungsten, bladed and pre-rigged systems from Westin, Yarie, Savage Gear, Berkley, Kinetic, Fox and Zebco.

Head shape influences fall, stability and how the lure moves over rock, weed or silt. Round heads are versatile, darting shapes can create sharper movement, and weedless or screw-in systems separate the weight from the final hook arrangement. A bladed jig adds flash and vibration, so it should not be assumed to fish like a plain head.

Jig Heads appears under both fishing hooks and terminal tackle in the current menu. One canonical collection page is appropriate, but both placements should use the same URL and description. Compare stingers for supplementary soft-lure rigging and offset hooks for weedless unweighted or separately weighted presentations.

Choose weight, hook and keeper

Use enough weight to maintain the intended depth and feel without making the presentation unnaturally fast. Deeper water, current and wind generally require more weight, while shallow or slow fishing favours lighter heads. Count the jig head, lure and any added hardware together when checking the rod's casting range.

Match hook length and gape to the soft lure. The point should emerge without bunching the body, and the lure should sit straight. Collars, wire keepers and screw attachments hold different materials with different levels of damage; fit them carefully and replace a torn lure that no longer remains secure.

The Double Hooks collection is currently empty and should not be promoted as a stocked alternative until corrected. For practical lure context, read the Keitech lure guide for perch in Ireland, then match the head to the stated soft-bait size and water conditions.

Fish and maintain jig-head rigs

Check the point after contact with stone, timber or shell, and inspect line near the knot after every snag. Tungsten and lead-free materials may be denser than traditional lead for the same weight, but composition must be confirmed from the product specification. Follow local rules on lead and tackle materials.

Keep sharp heads and hooks in a rigid box, separate weights and hook sizes clearly, and dry them after use. Rinse suitable tackle after saltwater exposure. Retrieve snagged line where safe, dispose of damaged hooks securely and avoid leaving soft-plastic fragments in the water.
