Fishing rods for every style of angling

Choosing the right fishing rod starts with the way you fish, the water you visit and the species you target. Spinning rods are a versatile choice for pike, perch, trout and sea bass, while baitcasting rods provide direct control when working heavier lures and casting reels. Rod combos offer a convenient ready-matched starting point, and telescopic spinning rods are useful when compact transport and quick setup matter.

For coarse and specialist fishing, explore feeder rods for accurate casting and bite detection, carp rods for powerful casting and playing larger fish, and fly rods for rivers, lakes and stillwaters. Surf rods provide the length and casting power needed from beaches and exposed shorelines, while boat rods are generally shorter and stronger for working tackle vertically. The range also includes deadbait rods, fishing whips and replacement feeder rod tips for more specialised setups.

Trusted fishing rod brands at Emerald Ripple

Our rod collection includes established names across predator, coarse, carp, fly and sea angling. Westin and Savage Gear are strongly represented across spinning, baitcasting, deadbait and boat fishing. Abu Garcia, Berkley, Golden Catch, Select and Fox Rage add further options for lure and predator anglers. Matrix and Preston Innovations specialise in feeder and coarse fishing, while Shakespeare, Mitchell and Kinetic cover a broad mix of freshwater, fly, surf, boat and general-purpose rods. Carp and specialist anglers can also compare models from Fox, JRC, Greys and Korum.

Brand is only one part of the decision. Compare the rod’s length, casting range, action, power, transport length and intended technique, then use the individual product specifications to choose the most suitable model for your fishing.

How to choose the right fishing rod

Start with the weight you need to cast. For lure rods, the stated casting range should suit the lures you use most often. Feeder and sea rods should be matched to the feeders, leads or rigs required for the venue, while carp rods are commonly compared by test curve. Regularly casting outside the recommended range can reduce control and may place unnecessary stress on the blank.

Rod length affects casting distance, line management and handling. Longer rods can be useful on open banks and shorelines, while shorter rods are often easier to control from boats or around trees and restricted swims. Action describes where the blank bends under load: faster actions can provide crisp lure control and clear bite feedback, while more progressive actions distribute the load further through the rod and can offer smoother casting and shock absorption.

Also consider the number of sections, handle material, reel-seat position and packed length. A rod that performs well on an open Irish shoreline may be unnecessarily long for a narrow canal, wooded riverbank or small boat, so match the design to the places where you fish most frequently.

Once you have chosen a rod, pair it with a suitable fishing reel and the correct fishing line. Lure anglers can explore our fishing lures, while fishing luggage helps protect rods, reels and tackle during storage and transport.
