Fishing lures for freshwater and sea angling

The right lure depends on the species you are targeting, the depth you need to reach and the type of retrieve you want to use. Soft lures are a versatile choice for pike, perch, trout and sea bass, with shapes ranging from shads and worms to creatures, craws and large predator baits. Minnows & crankbaits provide a more defined swimming action and are useful when you want to cover water at a controlled depth, while jerkbaits are designed for sharp rod movements, pauses and directional changes that can trigger aggressive strikes.

For flash and vibration, explore spinners, spinnerbaits and tail spinners. Vibe lures can be worked at different depths and are effective when fish respond to strong vibration, while surface lures create visible action on top of the water. Swimbaits offer a larger profile for targeting predatory fish.

The spoon range is divided into spoons up to 5g, spoons from 5g to 10g and spoons over 10g, making it easier to choose by casting weight and intended presentation. Lighter spoons suit more delicate tackle and shallow-water fishing, while heavier models provide additional casting distance and reach deeper water more quickly.

Sea anglers can compare sea metal jigs, pirks and feather rigs for shore and boat fishing. Fly fishing lures cover traditional patterns for trout, salmon and saltwater applications, while spoon kits and lure kits provide convenient selections for anglers building a tackle box or trying several colours, sizes and actions.

Fishing lure brands at Emerald Ripple

Our lure collection brings together established brands across soft plastics, hard lures, metal lures and specialist predator tackle. Westin, Savage Gear and Berkley offer a broad choice of soft lures, swimbaits, surface lures and hard baits. Select and Keitech are strongly represented in soft plastics for perch, pike and finesse fishing, while Megabass and DUO add further hard-lure and specialist options.

Kinetic and Yarie provide a strong selection of spoons and metal lures, while Abu Garcia, DAM, Fox and Fox Rage add further choices for predator anglers. The collection also includes products from Shamrock and Predox.

Brand is only one part of the decision. Compare the lure’s size, weight, action, buoyancy, hook setup and intended use before choosing. Different colours or sizes from the same lure series can behave very differently depending on depth, current, water clarity and retrieve speed.

How to choose the right fishing lure

Start with the target species and the size of prey present in the water. Smaller lures can be effective for perch, trout and pressured fish, while larger profiles may help attract pike and bigger sea predators. Match the lure weight to the casting range of your fishing rod and the strength of your fishing line. A lure that is too light may be difficult to cast accurately, while one that is too heavy can overload the setup.

Next, consider depth and speed. Floating and surface lures are suited to shallow water and active fish near the top. Suspending or slow-sinking lures can remain in the strike zone during pauses, while heavier spoons, jigs and vibes reach deeper water and cope better with current or wind.

In clear water, natural colours can imitate local prey. In coloured water, poor visibility or low light, stronger contrast, flash and vibration may be easier for fish to detect. It is useful to carry several colours and actions rather than relying on one pattern in every condition.

Soft lures can be rigged in different ways depending on cover, depth and presentation. Check that the jig head, hook or rig suits the lure size, and use leaders & traces where the target species or fishing conditions require them. Stingers can provide an additional hook position on larger predator lures when appropriate.

For saltwater fishing, choose corrosion-resistant components where possible and rinse reusable tackle after exposure to salt water.

Complete your lure fishing setup

Pair your chosen lures with suitable fishing rods, fishing reels and fishing lines. Small items such as snaps & swivels allow quicker lure changes, while the correct leader, trace or terminal connection helps protect the line and maintain reliable presentation.

Keep different sizes, hooks and colours organised in lure boxes, and use lure bags when carrying several boxes or changing fishing locations during the day.
